The CSA updates have been a bit thin lately as Sam and I prioritise harvesting, grading, irrigation, maintenance, pest management… and I figure it’s better to deliver fruit without an accompanying update than be composing emails while it falls on the ground!
Speaking of pest management, I have been doing my best to manage an outbreak of Queensland Fruit Fly and racking my brains about the best way out of the old rock/hard place situation. I would hate for any affected fruit to make it into your boxes but it is very difficult to tell from the outside if fruit has been damaged (depending on the extent) and I would equally hate to see the rest of my harvest go to waste if the majority of it is still totally fine.
So, please read the short QFF Alert post, let me know if you find anything in your boxes, and dispose if any affected fruit appropriately if it shows signs of life.
In true farming fashion, QFF is not the only force of nature that is assaulting our bountiful harvest. The kangaroos are hitting the apples hard again and Maka’s presence is proving not as effective at turning them off as I had hoped. Fingers crossed I can save enough to keep your boxes diverse for the rest of the fruit season.
