Final week (Metro)

Final week (Metro)

It’s been a wild ride. I’ve made plenty of mistakes, learnt a great deal and delivered the highest quality fruit in the most sustainable and ethical way that I could. CSA is a radical redefining of the food system and I am lucky to have had such a dedicated group of people with me on this journey.

As I have mentioned briefly, this is my final season here at Tellurian Fruit Gardens as I have chosen not to renew my lease at the end of the financial year. I’ll be introducing you to the new lessees ASAP (Alex, Yoann, Terry and Ingrid) and you’ll have the opportunity to stay on their mailing list or be removed. Their intention is to continue the CSA in some form so i’m sure we can make it a smooth transition.

Only two weeks left after this week (final delivery 1 May)! I should have just enough fruit to get us through to the end, however I am out of boxes, so please pay extra care in keeping your boxes out of the rain and returning them each week. The bulk of your boxes are now apples and pears…

Your delivery is early this week so that I can try and squeeze in a must needed break from the farm over the Easter long weekend. You’ve got the first of the Packham pears and Autumn Giant plums plus more Pink Ladies and and Angelino plums. The last few weeks of deliveries should be back to normal (Saturday morning drop-off).

Thing are slowly coming to a close here on the farm. I just harvested the last variety of plum and am halfway through the last apples. That, in combination with the final few varieties of pear, will see us through to the end of the fruit season. Sam has finished his internship and has headed back to Melbourne. He was a hard worker and a big help over the fruit season but now it’s back to me at the reins (mostly).

Contrary to last weeks update, this weeks delivery will be on Sunday (21st). Sorry for the late notice – the plan for this weeks delivery has changed a few times and due an unwell marketeer I have no-one to do the delivery/market in my place. All deliveries should be complete by 5pm. I’ll do my best to get them out earlier and I’ll send out a text once your box has been dropped off.

This week you’ve got Angelino plums (firm, tart, dark blue/purple) and Purplegage plums (light purple, astringent when firm, sweet when soft). I haven’t had much success with the Purplegage as they have always been quite astringent and sour but I left them on the tree as long as possible so hopefully they will sweeten once they are soft. I have tried a few and they seem quite nice. That will probably be all you get of them so good luck!

Sorry it’s been a while since the last email update! I hope you’ve been enjoying the fruit boxes nonetheless. I’m very excited to finally be delivering you some apples. From now until the end of the season it’ll be plums, apples and pears… Next weeks delivery will be on the Friday afternoon (19th)…
